wiener dogs, or just the best dog you can get, Dachshunds are wonderful pets. Their expressive faces and full body tail wag will make you fall in love. They come in an
assortment of colors and patterns to choose from: Red, Black and Tan, Chocolate and Tan, Piebalds, and
Dapples, and all the variations in between, there is bound to be a puppy for you!
I have been breeding Miniature Dachshunds since 2001. This is the first time we ever had a small breed, and it is a pleasant experience. My Dachshunds do not live in kennels. They stay in the house, but are able to go outside whenever they want. They sleep in my bed every night. The puppies are also raised in our house. They get lots of attention, and come pre-spoiled! They are small.

History of the Dachshund (Top)
Dachshunds were bred to dig out foxes from their dens, and hunt badgers. Because of this, Dachshunds can sometimes not be good with other animals, unless trained from a very young age that they are not to touch the animal. This means they can't even "play" with the animal. The "playing" could prove fatal, because the Dachshund might go a little overboard, and could kill it, just by playing with the animals.
They come in 2 sizes, Standard, which can get to be 16-32 lbs, and Miniature, which can be 7-11 lbs. They can come in quite an assortment of colors and patterns.
· The Dachshund was developed in Germany more than 300 years ago to hunt
badgers.
· From 1930 to 1940, Dachshunds advanced from 28th to sixth rank among
American registrations, and maintained this average rank through World War
II by constructive public relations.
Grooming

Dachshunds require minimal routine brushing to keep their coats healthy and
in good condition. The longhaired and wirehaired Dachshunds may require
extra grooming or help from a professional for the show ring.
The Wirehaired Dachshund requires "stripping", but only for the dog show ring. If not showing, just a light brushing 2-3 times a week, or a shave from the dog groomer, would be fine.
The Longhaired Dachshund requires 2-3 times brushing a week, to keep from getting tangles.
The Smooth haired Dachshund requires no brushing, but it wouldn't hurt to
use a soft brush on the coat to keep it shiny.
The Dachshund is naturally free from any "doggy" odor. Some websites or
books say they have a doggy odor, but they really don't.
The Dachshund makes a good companion whether you live in a small city
apartment or the country. Dachshunds are very loyal to their owners.
Dachshunds are generally easy to train for the show ring, or just train for
tricks.
They are quite smart, and love to be the center of attention, although they
have a "What's in it for me?" attitude, so be sure to be armed with plenty
of treats!

Low to ground, long in body and short of leg with robust muscular
development, the skin is elastic and pliable without excessive wrinkling.
Appearing neither crippled, awkward, nor cramped in his capacity for
movement, the Dachshund is well-balanced with bold and confident head
carriage and intelligent, alert facial expression. His keen nose gives him
an advantage over most other breeds for trailing.
Do not let your Dachshund get over weight. The extra weight on the Dachshund's back could hurt it, since the Dachshund has such a long back.
Size, Proportion, and Substance

Bred and shown in two sizes, standard and miniature, miniatures are not a
separate classification but compete in a class division for "11 pounds and
under at 12 months of age and older." Weight of the standard size is usually
between 16 and 32 pounds.
Temperament
(Top)
The Dachshund is clever, lively and courageous to the point of rashness,
persevering in above and below ground work, with all the senses
well-developed. Any display of shyness is a serious fault in the show ring. The Dachshunds
love to snuggle, and are excellent companions. They are excellent watch
dogs, and will try to protect you if bonded with you enough.
